Weight loss story

Two years ago, I was fat. I didn't want to hear it from others and was lying to myself, thinking it was not that bad. I used to wear dresses over leggings to cover the worst. I love to cook, and I coudn't imagine not being able to eat "tasty" food such as pizza, burgers, chips and potatoes. I created my own bubble in which I pretended everything was fine.

I was not fine. I started to have heartburn every single day, and I was bloated most of the days, too. I haven't listened to my body yet.

One day, I was attending training in London, and over two days, I was eating carbohydrate overload. I felt bloated all day, but I still bought an apple pie on my way home. I ate it even when I wasn't hungry, and my stomach was very uncomfortable. I had pizza when I went home and felt awful the whole next day. My scale also showed over 100 kg for the first time. This was the wake-up call for me.

My life had to change.

I started the low-carbohydrate diet in July 2022. I never wanted to count calories or start eating low-fat products, as most people do. The low-carbohydrate approach sounded good, as I could keep eating many of my favourite meals with some adjustments.

It also meant to give up sugar completely, together with products made of white flour and potatoes. I never felt as if I would want to give up. Sure, I dreamed about eating a chocolate bar for the first few months, and I made the mistake of eating flavoured yoghurts for breakfast, but I lost 12 kg in the first six months. I've done that without counting calories and being strict with my carb intake. I was aiming for around 50 net carbs per day, but I've never calculated if that's correct.

When you start eating fat, and you have a lot of fat to lose, it's easy.

This is the picture (on the right) when people started to notice my weight loss and compliment me.

At this point, my goal was to lose as much weight as possible within a year and then to start introducing some carbohydrates back into my diet.

I was naturally very wrong about this.

In May 2023, 10 months since I changed my lifestyle, I started feeling good about myself. It takes at least 9 months to completely break our old habits, and at this time, I fully grasped what changing the lifestyle means. I no longer wanted to go back to eating potatoes. I wanted to keep eating low-carbohydrate food for good.

In total, I've lost 20 kg and could wear clothes two sizes down. I no longer needed medication for heartburn, and I've never experienced heartburn ever since.

I felt so good that I started to think about how I could help others. I came up with the idea of becoming a health coach, and I enrolled in the Health Coaches Academy. My new career journey began.

Till this day, I have managed to lose 31 kg.

I have a goal to lose another 4 kg. By losing another 4 kg, I will weigh the same amount as when I was 17.

I am now three sizes down with my clothes. I have managed to revise my asthma, and I've never felt better in my life.

I feel full of energy even when I get a bad night's sleep. I have been exercising the most since becoming an adult. I even want to start running, which I have never done before.

I refuse to wear my leftover size 16 clothes even when they still loosely fit, as this would damage my confidence. For the first time in my life, I am making sure to buy a size that might be smaller, as I know I will fit into it, which I have proofed with every size down.

I have also fulfilled my dream of publishing my own cookbook.

My weight loss journey was neither difficult nor easy. I would never go back, and I will maintain my new lifestyle for the rest of my life, being an active old lady in the years to come.
